Environment
In 2006, Northwest Wood Preservers proudly achieved TRD Compliance and Certification, a joint government and industry program.
The self-contained CCA treating plant catches and re-uses 100% of the residual chemicals from the treatment process. Two in-line fixation chambers ensure positive fixation of the chemicals before the wood leaves the containment area.
Environmentally friendly ACQ treating was added in 2004. In 2007 the covered drip area was expanded. All ACQ wood now has optimal space, time, and forced air heat to drip dry.
Northwest Wood Preservers operates a thermal fluid plant. Using untreated wood waste, heated thermal fluid is used to generate steam for fixation, and heat for the dry kilns and covered drip area. Average emissions are significantly below provincially permitted levels.
Safety
Northwest Wood Preservers continuously improves engineering controls and management practices to achieve an incident and injury rate well below industry averages.
